عَجَباًHow wondrous! لواحِدِat the peerless one دَهرِهِof his age مِنas كاتِبٍa writer
عَجَباً لواحِدِ دَهرِهِ مِن كاتِبٍ
مُستَكْمِلٍhaving perfected حَدَّthe keen edge اللّسانِof the tongue مُقَدَّمِpreeminent
مُستَكْمِلٍ حَدَّ اللّسانِ مُقَدَّمِ
How wondrous a writer, unrivaled in his age,
A marvel it is, a writer of his time
Who has perfected the tongue’s keen edge, preeminent!
Whose eloquence perfects the tongue’s work
قدindeed سّدَّhas filled سِحرُthe magic بَيَانِهِof his eloquence وَبنانِهِand his fingertips
قد سّدَّ سِحرُ بَيَانِهِ وَبنانِهِ
ماwhatever غادَرَleft behind الشُّعراءُthe poets مِنof مُتَرَدَّمِa gap to be mended
ما غادَرَ الشُّعراءُ مِن مُتَرَدَّمِ
Indeed, the magic of his eloquence and his fingertips has filled
His magic fills the spaces between words
Whatever gaps the poets left to mend.
Leaving nothing for other poets to add
