عصىhe defied السُّلطانَthe sultan فابتدرَتْso they rushed إليهِtoward him
عصى السُّلطانَ فابتدرَتْ إليهِ
رِجالٌmen يقلَعونَthey uproot أباAbu (father of) قُبَيْسِQubays
رِجالٌ يقلَعونَ أبا قُبَيْسِ
He defied the sultan, so toward him rushed
He defied the sultan, so men came for him
Men who could uproot Abu Qubays.
To seize Abu Qubays in their rough justice
وَصيَّرَand he made طُوسَTus معقِلَهُhis stronghold فأضحَتْso it became
وَصيَّرَ طُوسَ معقِلَهُ فأضحَتْ
عليهِfor him طُوسُTus أشأَمَmore ill-omened مِنthan طُوَيْسِTuways
عليهِ طُوسُ أشأَمَ مِن طُوَيْسِ
And he made Tus his stronghold, but it proved
He made Tus his fortress, but Tus for him
More ill-omened for him than Tuways.
Became more ominous than Mount Tuways
