شأنكَ يا دمعُ وانحدارَكْ

شأنكَ يا دمعُ وانحدارَكْ

ويا زَفِيرَ الحَشا تدارَكْ

ويا زَفِيرَ الحَشا تدارَكْ

Do your part, O tears, and flow down!

Your fate, oh tear, and your descent

And, O sighs of the heart, come in succession!

And sigh of longing, haste to correct

فقد نأى المُنِسُ المُواتي

فقد نأى المُنِسُ المُواتي

وقد خَلا المجلِسُ المُبارَكْ

وقد خَلا المجلِسُ المُبارَكْ

For the comforting, congenial companion has gone far away,

For the companion has gone far away

And the blessed gathering-place has become empty.

And the blessed gathering is empty

وأيَّ جُرمٍ جنيتُ حتَّى

وأيَّ جُرمٍ جنيتُ حتَّى

أبعَدتَ بعدَ الدُّنُوِّ دارَك

أبعَدتَ بعدَ الدُّنُوِّ دارَك

And what crime did I commit, that

What wrong have I committed that

you moved your home far away after it had been near?

After nearness, your home is distant

وأيَّ ذَنبٍ أتيتُ حتَّى

وأيَّ ذَنبٍ أتيتُ حتَّى

سُلِبْتُ من شِقْوَتي جِوارَكْ

سُلِبْتُ من شِقْوَتي جِوارَكْ

And what sin did I commit, that

What sin have I done that

through my misfortune, I was deprived of your nearness?

I am deprived of being near you

يا قمرَ الأرض لا أراني

يا قمرَ الأرض لا أراني

رَبِّي ورَبُّ الورى سِرارَكْ

رَبِّي ورَبُّ الورى سِرارَكْ

O moon of the earth, may I never be shown

Oh moon of the earth, my Lord

your dark phase by my Lord, the Lord of all creation.

And Lord of all, knows your secret
