لا يَغُرَنَّكَ أنَّني لَيِّنُ اللَّمْ

لا يَغُرَنَّكَ أنَّني لَيِّنُ اللَّمْ

سِ فَعَزمي إذا انتضيت حُسامُ

سِ فَعَزمي إذا انتضيت حُسامُ

Do not let my softness to the touch deceive you;

Do not be deceived that I am soft of speech,

for my resolve, when I unsheathe it, is a sharp sword.

For when I unsheathe my sword, my will is strong.

أنا كالوردِ فيه راحَةُ قَومٍ

أنا كالوردِ فيه راحَةُ قَومٍ

ثمَّ فيهِ لآخرِينَ زُكامُ

ثمَّ فيهِ لآخرِينَ زُكامُ

I am like the rose: in it some find comfort,

I am like a rose, a comfort for some,

yet in it others find a cold.

Yet for others, I bring but a runny nose.
