لا تَعتَبَنَّ على الزَّمانِ وصَرْفِه

لا تَعتَبَنَّ على الزَّمانِ وصَرْفِه

مادامَ يقنَعُ مِنكَ بالأطرافِ

مادامَ يقنَعُ مِنكَ بالأطرافِ

Do not ever reproach time and its vicissitudes,

Blame not the turns of Fate, while yet thy edge

so long as it is content with your outer edges.

Can part the ninetieth of a hair in four;

فإذا سلِمتَ فلا تكُنْ لكَ هِمَّةٌ

فإذا سلِمتَ فلا تكُنْ لكَ هِمَّةٌ

إلا دوامَ سلامَةِ الأُلاّفِ

إلا دوامَ سلامَةِ الأُلاّفِ

Then, if you remain safe, let no concern be yours

Thy joy in life so long as peace on thee

except the lasting well-being of your close companions.

Attend and leave thee with enough of love.
