بنيتَ القصورَ رجاءَ الخلود

بنيتَ القصورَ رجاءَ الخلود

وأنسيتَ هدم الزمان المغير

وأنسيتَ هدم الزمان المغير

You built palaces in the hope of immortality,

and were made to forget the destruction wrought by ravaging time.

ومن قصر الرأي أن الفتى

ومن قصر الرأي أن الفتى

يشيدُ القصورَ لعمرٍ قصير

يشيدُ القصورَ لعمرٍ قصير

And it is shortsighted for a young man

to erect palaces for a short life.
