عاجلْتَyou hastened ثَوبَthe robe علاكَyour eminence بالتَّوسيخِwith soiling
وخدَجْتَand you marred وجهَthe face رِضاكِyour favor بالتَّوبيخِwith rebuke
You hastened to soil the robe of your eminence.
And you marred the face of your favor with rebuke.
وأصخْتَand you listened للواشيto the slanderer فزَوَّقَso he embellished ماwhatever اشْتَهىhe desired
والحُرُّand the noble man للوَاشينَto slanderers غَيرُnot مُصيخِlistening
And you listened to the slanderer, so he embellished whatever he pleased.
Yet a noble man lends no ear to slanderers.
وأنخْتَand you made kneel فيin حَزْنٍrugged ground ركائبَriding camels صُحبَتيmy companionship
والصّارخُand the caller for help الملهوفُthe anguished خَيرُthe worthiest صَريخِone crying for help
And you made the riding camels of my companionship kneel on rugged ground.
And the anguished caller is the worthiest of those who cry for help.
ياO مَنْyou who تَولَّىundertook المُشتريJupiter تدبيرَهُthe management of his affairs
حاشاكَfar be it from you أنْthat انقادَhe yielded للمرِّيخِto Mars
O you whose affairs Jupiter has undertaken to direct,
Far be it from you to have yielded to Mars.
