She said, when I entreated her for a kiss
with which she might heal a sorrowful, love-stricken heart:
قدِّمْoffer يداًa kindness مِنfrom قبلِbefore أنto تُدنيyou bring near يداًa hand
وَمَبَّرةًand a gift منfrom قبلِbefore أنto تدنيyou bring near فَماa mouth
“Offer a kindness before bringing a hand near,
and a gift before bringing your mouth near.
إنَّindeed الغَرامَpassionate love غرامَةٌa financial cost فمتىso whenever تكُنْyou are
بيof me مُغرَماًenamored فلُتَحتَمِلْthen you must bear بيon my account مَغْرَماan expense
Indeed, love comes at a cost; so whenever you are
enamored of me, bear an expense on my account.”
