تحمَّلْbear with أخاكَyour brother علىdespite ماwhat بِهِis in him
تحمَّلْ أخاكَ على ما بِهِ
فماfor there is no فيin استقامتِهِhis uprightness مَطْمَعُhope
فما في استقامتِهِ مَطْمَعُ
Bear with your brother as he is,
Bear with your brother as he is
for there is no hope of his being perfectly upright.
For in his rectitude there is no hope
فأنَّىso how لهُfor him خُلُقٌa disposition واحِدٌsingle
فأنَّى لهُ خُلُقٌ واحِدٌ
وفيهِwhile within him طبائِعُهُhis temperaments الأربَعُthe four
وفيهِ طبائِعُهُ الأربَعُ
How, then, can he have a single disposition,
How can he have but one character
when his four temperaments are within him?
