When the miser draws his brows taut,
and guards the sanctuary of his two dirhams,
فاتركْthen leave عِنانَthe reins of البُخْلِmiserliness فيin يَديْهِhis two hands
وقُمْand rise إلىto السَّيفِthe sword وشَفْرَتَيْهِand its two cutting edges
leave the reins of miserliness in his hands,
and turn to the sword and its two edges,
واستنزِلِand draw down الرِّزقَsustenance بمضربيهِwith its two striking edges
إنْif قعَدَsat down الدَّهرُTime فقُمْthen rise إلَيهِto meet it
and draw down sustenance with its two striking edges.
If Time sits down, then rise to meet it.
