وإنْand if عُدتْI return لَهاto her يَوماًone day
وإنْ عُدتْ لَها يَوماً
فَسجّانِيَthen my jailer سَجّانيhe shrouded me
فَسجّانِيَ سَجّاني
And if I ever return to her,
And if I return to it one day
may my jailer shroud me,
Then my yearning yearns for me
ولِلْمَوتِand to death الوحيswift الأحthe red (word beginning)
ولِلْمَوتِ الوحي الأح
مَرcompletion of 'red' القانئdeep crimson ألقانيhe cast me
مَر القانئ ألقاني
and to swift, red death
And to death the most truthful revelation
—deep crimson—cast me.
