وغَزالٍand a gazelle كُلُّevery مَنْone who شبَّهَهُlikened him
وغَزالٍ كُلُّ مَنْ شبَّهَهُ
بِهلالٍto a crescent moon أوor ببَدْرِto a full moon ظَلَمَهْwronged him
بِهلالٍ أو ببَدْرِ ظَلَمَهْ
And a gazelle—everyone who likened him
Each one who likened a gazelle to
to a crescent or a full moon wronged him.
a new moon or to a darkened full moon
قالَhe said إذْwhen قبَّلتُI kissed بالوَهمِin imagination فَمهُhis mouth
قالَ إذْ قبَّلتُ بالوَهمِ فَمهُ
قدْindeed تعدَّيْتَyou have overstepped وأسرَفْتَand gone too far فَمَهْso stop!
قدْ تعدَّيْتَ وأسرَفْتَ فَمَهْ
He said, when I kissed his mouth in imagination:
Said, when in fantasy I kissed its mouth:
“You have overstepped and gone too far—so stop!”
"You have gone too far and overdone it, now stop!"
