Temper your frown with cheerfulness; balanced will be
Adjust your mood with cheerfulness, so their balance is corrected

تلقاهُ وهوَ العابِسُ المُتَجَهِّمُ
For the noble man is cheerful and laughing, yet sometimes
The free man is easygoing, laughing, and sometimes

كالوَردِlike the rose فيهِin it عُفوصَةٌastringency ومرارَةٌand bitterness

وهو الذَّكِيُّ النّاضِرُ المُتَيسِّمُ
like the rose, which holds astringency and bitterness,
Like a rose - it has fragrance and bitterness
yet is fragrant, fresh, and fair.
Yet it is the intelligent, radiant, smiling one.
