هدِيَّةُgift العَبدِof the servant علىaccording to قَدْرِهِhis means
هدِيَّةُ العَبدِ على قَدْرِهِ
والقَصدُand the aim أنthat يقبَلَهاhe accepts it السَّيِّدُthe master
والقَصدُ أن يقبَلَها السَّيِّدُ
A servant's gift is according to his means,
A servant's gift is to his measure
And the aim is for the master to accept it.
And the aim is that the master accepts it
أماdo ... not تَرىyou see العَينَthe eye علىdespite فَضلِهاits excellence
أما تَرى العَينَ على فَضلِها
تَقبلُaccepts ماwhat يُهديoffers as a gift لَهاto it المِرْوَدُthe kohl-stick
تَقبلُ ما يُهدي لَها المِرْوَدُ
Do you not see the eye, for all its excellence,
Do you not see the eye in its excellence
Accept what the kohl-stick offers it?
Accepts what the affectionate presents to it
