صَديقٌ لَنا ليسَ في قَولهِ

صَديقٌ لَنا ليسَ في قَولهِ

وفي فِعلِهِ إنْ تأمَّلْتَ أَلْتُ

وفي فِعلِهِ إنْ تأمَّلْتَ أَلْتُ

A friend of ours has no shortcoming in his speech,

A friend of ours, in his words and deeds, if you examine them closely, you will find no crookedness.

nor in his deeds, if you look closely.

He says to his servants: "Rejoice! For if I intend to do something unjust, I reconsider.

يقولُ لغِلمانِهِ أبشِروا

يقولُ لغِلمانِهِ أبشِروا

لأنِّي إذا رُمْتُ أمراً عدلْتُ

لأنِّي إذا رُمْتُ أمراً عدلْتُ

He says to his boys, “Rejoice,

So do not consider me oppressive, for I make a pact with you - if I act, I shall be acted upon."

for when I seek something, I act fairly.

فلا تحسبوني ظَلوماً فإنِّي

فلا تحسبوني ظَلوماً فإنِّي

أشارِطُكم إنْ فَعلْتُ انفعلْتُ

أشارِطُكم إنْ فَعلْتُ انفعلْتُ

So do not think me oppressive, for I

make this bargain with you: if I act, I shall be acted upon.”
