جَميلٌ وأمّا خُلْقُهُ فَقَبيحُ
A friend of mine—as for his physique, he is well-built,
I have a brother, though his manner is fierce
handsome; but as for his character, it is ugly.
He is handsome, yet his character is ugly

He has arrows he has fletched with his coldness,
He has arrows which he has feathered with his disdain
and my heart is wounded by those arrows.
And my heart is wounded by those arrows

His promises are wind, and there is no good in a young man
His promises are but wind, and no good comes from a youth
whose promises, in the face of reality, are wind.
Whose promises in the face of facts, are but wind
