فديتُكَmay I be your ransom ياO مُحمَّدُMuhammad منwhat a كَريمٍnoble man
فديتُكَ يا مُحمَّدُ من كَريمٍ
هَنيءٍwholesome صَرفُهُhis pure, unmixed essence عذبُsweet المِزاجِthe blend
هَنيءٍ صَرفُهُ عذبُ المِزاجِ
May I be your ransom, O Muhammad—what a noble man,
I ransom you, O Muhammad, from a generous one
Wholesome in his unmixed state, sweet when blended.
Whose disposition is sweetly pure
لهُhe has فيin النَّظمِverse composition مِنهاجٌa way بديعٌwondrous
لهُ في النَّظمِ مِنهاجٌ بديعٌ
وليسَand there is no لِذلكَfor that المِنهاجِway هاجِdetractor
وليسَ لِذلكَ المِنهاجِ هاجِ
He has a wondrous way of composing verse,
He has in poetry an excellent method
And that way has no detractor.
And no one can reach the level of his method
معانيهِhis meanings بُروجٌtowers ليسnot تُرْقىscaled
معانيهِ بُروجٌ ليس تُرْقى
وهلْand ...? يَرقىascend إلىto الأبراجِthe towers راجِone who hopes
وهلْ يَرقى إلى الأبراجِ راجِ
His meanings are towers that cannot be scaled;
His meanings are stars that cannot be attained
And can one who hopes ascend to the towers?
And can a planet reach the stars?
