أتاني كِتابٌ مِنكَ يقصُرُ دونَهُ
سناءٌsplendor وحُسْناًand beauty كُلُevery شَيءٍthing مُكَتَّبِwritten
سناءٌ وحُسْناً كُلُ شَيءٍ مُكَتَّبِ
A letter from you reached me, surpassing
A letter came to me from you, beneath which
In splendor and beauty everything written.
All splendor and beauty pale, every written word -
فكَمْfor how many فيهِin it منof لَفْظٍan expression أنيقٍelegant مُذَهَّبٍgilded
فكَمْ فيهِ من لَفْظٍ أنيقٍ مُذَهَّبٍ
وكَمand how many فيهِin it مِنof معنىًa meaning عًريقٍdeep-rooted مُهَذَّبِrefined
وكَم فيهِ مِن معنىً عًريقٍ مُهَذَّبِ
For how many elegant, gilded expressions it contains!
How much choice phrasing adorns it, all gilded!
And how many deep-rooted, refined meanings it holds!
How many exquisite, refined thoughts lie within!
