An old man of ours grants us his honor

before he grants us his wealth.

The most abject of God's creatures is whoever thinks him

noble, and whoever, thirsty, watches his raincloud.

And the most fully quenched of youths is a youth

who confides his condition to him in turn.

An old man with abundant wealth, yet he

has made his locks the owners of all he owns.

So whenever a problem arises for us

and he seeks to clear up its obscurity,

he bases his actions on bewilderment,

and that, in truth, makes him still blinder.

So the All-Merciful appointed a viper for him

that shows him his deeds in solitude.
