لاdo not تَحرِمَنَّdeprive (emphatic) كريماًa noble person ماso far as استطَعْتَyou can ولاand do not
لا تَحرِمَنَّ كريماً ما استطَعْتَ ولا
تَقرgrant النّجاحَsuccess لئيماًa base person طبعُهُhis nature طَبَعُmoral filth
تَقر النّجاحَ لئيماً طبعُهُ طَبَعُ
Do not deprive a noble person, so far as you can, nor
Do not deprive a generous man when you can give
grant success to a base person whose nature is foul.
And do not bestow success on a despicable man of depraved nature
إنَindeed الكِرامَthe noble إذاwhen ماan emphatic particle مسَّهُمْtouches them سغبٌhunger
إنَ الكِرامَ إذا ما مسَّهُمْ سغبٌ
صالُواthey attack صِيالthe assault of لئامِthe base among النَاسِpeople إنif شبِعواthey are sated
صالُوا صِيال لئامِ النَاسِ إن شبِعوا
Indeed, when hunger touches the noble,
When the generous are struck by hard times
they attack as base people do when sated.
They become like the base people if satiated
