حُبُّكَ لِلمالِ لا كَحُبُّكَ عَب
بادَةَbāda (remainder of the name ʿAbbāda) ياO فاضِحَdisgracer of المُحِبّيناthe lovers
بادَةَ يا فاضِحَ المُحِبّينا
Your love of money is not like your love of ʿAb-
Your love of money, not like your love
bāda, O you who disgrace lovers!
Of worship, o exposer of lovers
لَوif كُنتَyou had أَصفَيتَهاyou sincerely devoted to her الوِدادَaffection كَماas
لَو كُنتَ أَصفَيتَها الوِدادَ كَما
قُلتَyou said لَماwould not have بِعتَهاyou sold her بِخَمسيناfor fifty
قُلتَ لَما بِعتَها بِخَمسينا
Had you given her sincere affection, as
If you had purified it of affection, as
you said, you would not have sold her for fifty.
