وَأَقبَلتَ عَلى الدُنيا

وَأَقبَلتَ عَلى الدُنيا

بِعَزمٍ أَيَّ إِقبالِ

بِعَزمٍ أَيَّ إِقبالِ

And you have turned toward the world

And embarked upon this world

with resolve—what eagerness!

With determination, what determination!

وَما تَنفَكُّ أَن تَكدَ

وَما تَنفَكُّ أَن تَكدَ

حَ أَشغالاً بِأَشغالِ

حَ أَشغالاً بِأَشغالِ

And you never cease to toil,

Yet you can't cease toiling

at task upon task.

Burden upon burden

فَيا هَذا تَجَهَّز لِ

فَيا هَذا تَجَهَّز لِ

فِراقِ الأَهلِ وَالمالِ

فِراقِ الأَهلِ وَالمالِ

So, you there, prepare for

So, O you, prepare yourself

parting from family and wealth.

For parting from family and wealth

فَلا بُدَّ مِنَ المَوتِ

فَلا بُدَّ مِنَ المَوتِ

عَلى حالٍ مِنَ الحالِ

عَلى حالٍ مِنَ الحالِ

So there is no escape from death,

For death is inevitable

whatever the circumstance.
