مَنwhoever سابَقَraced against الدَهرَTime كَباstumbled كَبوَةًa stumble
لَمdid not يَستَقِلهاrecover from it مِنfrom خُطىthe strides of الدَهرِTime
Whoever races against Time suffers a fall
He who races too fast ahead of fate
From which he cannot recover, owing to Time's strides.
Will not escape its steady gait
فَاِخطُso step مَعَwith الدَهرِTime عَلىaccording to ماwhat خَطىit stepped
وَاجرِand run مَعَwith الدَهرِTime كَماas يَجريit runs
So step with Time as it steps,
So move apace with fate's decree
And run with Time as it runs.
And flow as time's own current be

There is, for one who has no means
For he with no recourse can but bide
At hand, nothing better than patience.
Endurance is his only guide

How swiftly the days pass in a month,
How fast the days slip by each month
And how swiftly the months pass in a lifetime!
The months slip faster from our youth
