Whoever is not admonished by experience and discipline

is not restrained by his gray hair or the passing years.

O you afflicted by your ambition,

have you not seen how time turns?

Which of God's creations amazes one

who marvels, when all creation is a marvel?

And contentment and submission put an end to

    worry; unbelief makes ruin increase.

    And sound judgment firmly establishes

earnestness, while amusement and play cease.

And beautiful contentment brings ease to

    life; greed makes toil grow.

Indeed, wealth lies in souls, and honor is reverence

for God, not silver or gold.

And the events of fate run their course, and never

bring anything to pass without a cause.
