    What life could be more fulfilling than a life

    of sufficiency, with food enough to sustain one?

    وَعَلى نَفسِهِ بَغى كُلُّ باغِ

    The perpetrator of injustice is not safe from it;

    and every wrongdoer wrongs himself.

    For many a man blessed with bounty, from it has arisen

    a barrier between him and swallowing it.

    Time has been eloquent in its admonitions—nay,

    in them, for me, it has gone beyond eloquence.

    The days have cheated me of my reason and my wealth,

    and my youth, and my health, and my leisure.
