حَجَبوهاthey secluded her عَنِfrom الرِياحِthe winds لِأَنّيbecause I
حَجَبوها عَنِ الرِياحِ لِأَنّي
قُلتُI said ياO ريحُwind بَلِّغيهاconvey to her السَلاماgreetings
قُلتُ يا ريحُ بَلِّغيها السَلاما
They secluded her from the winds because I
They veiled her from the winds because I
said, “O wind, convey greetings to her.”
Said "O breeze, give her my greeting"
لَوif رَضواthey were content بِالحِجابِwith seclusion هانَit would have been bearable وَلَكِنand yet
لَو رَضوا بِالحِجابِ هانَ وَلَكِن
مَنَعوهاthey forbade her يَومَon the day of الرَحيلِthe departure الكَلاماspeech
مَنَعوها يَومَ الرَحيلِ الكَلاما
Had they been content with seclusion, it would have been bearable; but
Had they been satisfied with the veil, it would have been easier
they forbade her to speak on the day of departure.
But they forbade her from speaking on the day we parted
