إِنَّماonly الذَنبُthe sin عَلىupon مَنwhoever جَناهُcommitted it
إِنَّما الذَنبُ عَلى مَن جَناهُ
لَمdid not يَضُرharm قَبلُbefore جَهولاًa fool سِواهُother than him
لَم يَضُر قَبلُ جَهولاً سِواهُ
The sin rests only upon whoever committed it.
The sin is only upon he who commits it
Never before has it harmed a fool other than him.
It harmed no ignoramus before him
فَسَدَgrew corrupt الناسُthe people جَميعاًall فَأَمسىand so became
فَسَدَ الناسُ جَميعاً فَأَمسى
خَيرُهُمthe best of them مَنwhoever كَفَّwithheld عَنّاfrom us أَذاهُhis harm
خَيرُهُم مَن كَفَّ عَنّا أَذاهُ
All people have grown corrupt, and now
So people were corrupted entirely, and by evening
The best of them is whoever spares us his harm.
The best of them restrained their harm to us
