هَمُّpreoccupation القاضيthe judge بَيتٌa verse يُطرِبdelights
هَمُّ القاضي بَيتٌ يُطرِب
قالَsaid القاضيthe judge لَمّاwhen عوتِبhe was reproached
قالَ القاضي لَمّا عوتِب
The judge’s preoccupation is a verse that delights.
The judge's worries disturb his home
The judge said when he was reproached:
The judge said when he was blamed
ماnot فيin الدُنياthe world إِلّاexcept مُذنِبa sinner
ما في الدُنيا إِلّا مُذنِب
هَذاthis عُذرُthe excuse of القاضيthe judge وَاِقلِبand reverse it
هَذا عُذرُ القاضي وَاِقلِب
“There is no one in the world but a sinner.”
There is none in this world but a sinner
This is the judge’s excuse—and reverse it.
Such is the judge's excuse, so turn away
