الناسُthe people يَخدَعُdeceives بَعضُهُمsome of them بَعضاothers
الناسُ يَخدَعُ بَعضُهُم بَعضا
مَحَضواthey made pure التَخادُعَmutual deceit بَينَهُمamong themselves مَحضاcompletely
مَحَضوا التَخادُعَ بَينَهُم مَحضا
People deceive one another.
People deceive each other
They have made their mutual deceit pure and unalloyed.
They have perfected deceit among themselves
فَلَقَلَّماso very rarely تَلقىyou encounter بِهاin it أَحَداًanyone
فَلَقَلَّما تَلقى بِها أَحَداً
مُتَنَزِّهاًkeeping himself unsullied يَحميhe protects لَهُfor himself عِرضاhonor
مُتَنَزِّهاً يَحمي لَهُ عِرضا
So rarely do you meet anyone in this world
Rarely will you find someone
Who keeps himself unsullied and guards his honor.
Of integrity who protects his honor
اِلبَسmingle with جَميعَall الناسِpeople مُحتَمِلاًbearing patiently
اِلبَس جَميعَ الناسِ مُحتَمِلاً
لِلعالَمينَtoward all humankind وَكُنand be لَهُمto them أَرضاearth
لِلعالَمينَ وَكُن لَهُم أَرضا
Mingle with all people, showing forbearance
Wear the garb of all people with tolerance
Toward all humankind, and be as earth to them.
Become earth for all the worlds
فَلَئِنfor if indeed غَضِبتَyou grow angry لِكُلِّat every حادِثَةٍmishap
فَلَئِن غَضِبتَ لِكُلِّ حادِثَةٍ
تُرمىyou are pelted بِهاwith it فَلَقَلَّماthen very rarely تَرضىyou are content
تُرمى بِها فَلَقَلَّما تَرضى
For if you grow angry at every mishap
If you get angry at every incident
Hurled at you, you will seldom be content.
That you are struck with, you will rarely be pleased
