عَلىupon رَسولِthe Messenger اللَهِGod مِنّيfrom me السَلامpeace
عَلى رَسولِ اللَهِ مِنّي السَلام
ماnot كانَhe was إِلّاexcept رَحمَةًa mercy لِلأَنامto all creation
ما كانَ إِلّا رَحمَةً لِلأَنام
Peace from me be upon the Messenger of God.
Peace be upon the Messenger of Allah from me,
He was nothing but a mercy to all creation.
He was nothing but a mercy for all people.
أَحياbrought to life بِهِthrough him اللَهُGod قُلوباًhearts كَماjust as
أَحيا بِهِ اللَهُ قُلوباً كَما
أَحياbrought to life مَواتَlifeless ground الأَرضِthe earth صَوبُrainfall الغَمامthe clouds
أَحيا مَواتَ الأَرضِ صَوبُ الغَمام
Through him, God brought hearts to life, just as
With him Allah revived hearts, just as
the clouds' rain brought dead earth to life.
The clouds revive the barren earth.
أَكرِمhow noble بِهِhe is لِلخَلقِto creation مِنas مُبلِغٍa messenger
أَكرِم بِهِ لِلخَلقِ مِن مُبلِغٍ
هادٍa guide وَلِلناسِand for the people بِهِin him مِنas إِمامa leader
هادٍ وَلِلناسِ بِهِ مِن إِمام
How noble he is as a messenger to creation,
He honored mankind by sending a bearer
a guide—and what a leader the people have in him!
Who guided and led people as an imam.
وَأَصبَحَand became الحَقُّtruth بِهِthrough him قائِماًstanding firm
وَأَصبَحَ الحَقُّ بِهِ قائِماً
وَأَصبَحَand became الباطِلُfalsehood دَحضَslippery المَقامthe footing
وَأَصبَحَ الباطِلُ دَحضَ المَقام
And through him, truth came to stand firm,
Truth stood firm through him,
And falsehood's footing became slippery.
While falsehood vanished and lost all standing.
كانَused to رَسولُthe Messenger اللَهِGod يَدعوcall إِلىto
كانَ رَسولُ اللَهِ يَدعو إِلى
مَدرَجَةِthe path الحَقِّtruth وَدارِand the abode السَلامpeace
مَدرَجَةِ الحَقِّ وَدارِ السَلام
The Messenger of God used to call to
The Messenger of Allah called to
the path of truth and the Abode of Peace.
The path of truth and abode of peace.
ياO عَينُeye قَدalready نِمتِyou have slept فَاستَنبِهيso awaken
يا عَينُ قَد نِمتِ فَاستَنبِهي
ماnever اجتَمَعَcame together الخَوفُfear وَطيبُand the sweetness المَنامsleep
ما اجتَمَعَ الخَوفُ وَطيبُ المَنام
O eye, you have slept; so awaken!
O eye that sleeps, awaken,
Fear and sweet sleep never come together.
When fear and sweet dreams come together.
أَكرَهُI hate أَنto أَلقىmeet حِماميmy death وَلاand there is no
أَكرَهُ أَن أَلقى حِمامي وَلا
بُدَّescape لِحَيٍّfor a living being مِنfrom لِقاءِmeeting الحِمامdeath
بُدَّ لِحَيٍّ مِن لِقاءِ الحِمام
I hate to meet my death, yet there is no
I dislike to meet my fate, but
escape for any living being from meeting death.
The living cannot avoid their destiny.
لابُدَّthere is no escape مِنfrom مَوتٍdeath بِدارِin the abode البِلىdecay
لابُدَّ مِن مَوتٍ بِدارِ البِلى
وَاللَهُand God بَعدَafter المَوتِdeath يُحيِrevives العِظَمthe bones
وَاللَهُ بَعدَ المَوتِ يُحيِ العِظَم
Death is unavoidable in the abode of decay,
Death in the abode of woe is inevitable,
And after death, God brings the bones to life.
Yet after death Allah will revive the bones.
ياO طالِبَseeker of الدُنياthis world وَلَذّاتِهاand its pleasures
يا طالِبَ الدُنيا وَلَذّاتِها
هَلwould...? لَكَfor you فيin مُلكٍa kingdom طَويلِlong المُقامthe stay
هَل لَكَ في مُلكٍ طَويلِ المُقام
O seeker of this world and its pleasures,
O seeker of the world and its pleasures,
Would you have a kingdom where your stay is long?
Can any kingdom endure forever?
مَنwhoever جاوَرَdwells beside الرَحمَنَthe Most Merciful فيدارِهِin His abode
مَن جاوَرَ الرَحمَنَ فيدارِهِ
تَمَّتbecame complete لَهُfor him النِعمَةُthe blessing كُلَّall التَمامcompleteness
تَمَّت لَهُ النِعمَةُ كُلَّ التَمام
Whoever dwells beside the Most Merciful in His abode—
Who dwells with the All-Merciful in His abode
for him, blessing is complete, utterly complete.
Will have perfect bliss in full.
