O rider of error, acting without deliberation,

How far apart are misguidance and right guidance!

    فَاِستَغفِرِ اللَهَ ثُمَّ لا تَعُدِ

    Let what you have already done deliberately suffice;

So ask God for forgiveness, then do not return to it.

O you whose decrease is your increase,

If you have not diminished, then you have not increased.

I marveled at one who hopes, though his admonisher is

death—yet he took no warning, nor even came close.

How swiftly night and day pass, with

short hours that consume the allotted span!

Decay will surely befall us just as

it befell Lubad before our time.

O Death, O Death, how many a trusted brother

has made me close his eyes with my own hand!

O Death, O Death, how much have you added to

    scarcity—of wealth and of livers!

O Death, O Death, how many suffer your piercing—

wounded hearts that bleed, and livers!

O Death, O Death, you were brought to us at dawn by the

sun, and at dusk by the stars of Leo.

O Death, O Death, I do not see you, among

    all creation, sparing anyone.

Praise be to God, always and forever.

One who is not moderate may describe moderation.

Whoever seeks light through guidance will be illumined; and whoever

seeks a way to God will find it.
