إِمامَO leader of الهُدىguidance أَصبَحتَyou have become بِالدينِwith the faith مَعنِياconcerned
إِمامَ الهُدى أَصبَحتَ بِالدينِ مَعنِيا
وَأَصبَحتَand you have become تَسقيyou water كُلَّevery مُستَمطِرٍseeker of rain رِيّاfull quenching
وَأَصبَحتَ تَسقي كُلَّ مُستَمطِرٍ رِيّا
O leader of guidance, you have become devoted to the faith.
You have become the imam of guidance through religion, O meaningful one,
And you now give every seeker of rain his fill of water.
And you have become one who quenches the thirst of every rain-seeker.
لَكَfor you اسمانِtwo names شُقّاwere both derived مِنfrom رَشادٍrectitude وَمِنand from هُداًguidance
لَكَ اسمانِ شُقّا مِن رَشادٍ وَمِن هُداً
فَأَنتَso you الَّذيthe one who تُدعىare called رَشيداًRashid وَمُهدِيّاand Mahdi
فَأَنتَ الَّذي تُدعى رَشيداً وَمُهدِيّا
You have two names, derived from rectitude and guidance.
You have two names derived from integrity and guidance,
For you are the one called Rashid and Mahdi.
So you are the one called righteous and rightly-guiding.
إِذاwhenever ماever (emphasis) سَخِطتَyou disapprove of الشَيءَthe thing كانَit becomes مُسَخَّطاًdisapproved of
إِذا ما سَخِطتَ الشَيءَ كانَ مُسَخَّطاً
وَإِنand if تَرضَyou approve of شَيئاًsomething كانَit becomes فيamong الناسِthe people مَرضِيّاapproved of
وَإِن تَرضَ شَيئاً كانَ في الناسِ مَرضِيّا
Whenever you disapprove of something, it is disapproved of.
If you become angry with something, it becomes accursed,
And if you approve of something, it is approved of among the people.
And if you are pleased with something, it becomes pleasing among people.
بَسَطتَyou extended لَناto us شَرقاًeastward وَغَرباًand westward يَدَthe hand of العُلاgreatness
بَسَطتَ لَنا شَرقاً وَغَرباً يَدَ العُلا
فَأَوسَعتَso you enriched شَرقِيّاًan easterner وَأَوسَعتَand you enriched غَربِيّاa westerner
فَأَوسَعتَ شَرقِيّاً وَأَوسَعتَ غَربِيّا
You have stretched out to us, east and west, the hand of greatness.
You have spread east and west with the hand of superiority,
So you have enriched the easterner and enriched the westerner.
So you have expanded the east and expanded the west.
وَوَشَّيتَand you embroidered وَجهَthe face of الأَرضِthe earth بِالجودِwith generosity وَالنَدىand bounty
وَوَشَّيتَ وَجهَ الأَرضِ بِالجودِ وَالنَدى
فَأَصبَحَso it became وَجهُthe face of الأَرضِthe earth بِالجودِwith generosity مَوشِيّاembroidered
فَأَصبَحَ وَجهُ الأَرضِ بِالجودِ مَوشِيّا
And you have embroidered the face of the earth with generosity and bounty.
You have covered the face of the earth with generosity and dew,
So the face of the earth has become embroidered with generosity.
So the face of the earth has become covered with generosity.
وَأَنتَand you أَميرَO Commander of المُؤمِنينَthe Faithful فَتىa young man of التُقىpiety
وَأَنتَ أَميرَ المُؤمِنينَ فَتى التُقى
نَشَرتَyou unfolded مِنَof الإِحسانِbenevolence ماwhat كانَhad been مَطوِيّاfolded away
نَشَرتَ مِنَ الإِحسانِ ما كانَ مَطوِيّا
And you, Commander of the Faithful, are a pious young man.
And you are the commander of the faithful, the virtuous youth,
You have unfolded the benevolence that had lain folded away.
You have spread goodness that was once hidden.
قَضىdecreed اللَهُGod أَنthat يَبقىremain لِهارونَfor Harun مُلكُهُhis sovereignty
قَضى اللَهُ أَن يَبقى لِهارونَ مُلكُهُ
وَكانَand was قَضاءُthe decree of اللَهِGod فيamong الخَلقِcreation مَقضِيّاfulfilled
وَكانَ قَضاءُ اللَهِ في الخَلقِ مَقضِيّا
God decreed that Harun retain his sovereignty.
God has decreed that Harun keep his kingdom,
And God's decree was fulfilled among creation.
And the decree of God among creation became fulfilled.
تَحَلَّبَتِyielded milk لدُنياthe world لِهارونَfor Harun بِالرِضاwith willing consent
تَحَلَّبَتِ لدُنيا لِهارونَ بِالرِضا
وَأَصبَحَand became نَقفورٌNikephoros لِهارونَto Harun ذِمِّيّاa protected tributary
وَأَصبَحَ نَقفورٌ لِهارونَ ذِمِّيّا
The world willingly yielded its milk to Harun.
The world yielded to Harun in contentment,
And Nikephoros became Harun's protected tributary.
And taxes for Harun's treasury became obligatory.
