إِنَّindeed ذاthis المَوتَdeath ماno عَلَيهِagainst it مُجيرُprotector
يَهلِكُperishes المُستَجارُthe one whose protection is sought وَالمُستَجيرُand the seeker of protection
Indeed, there is no protector against this death.
The protector and the seeker of protection both perish.

If you are unfamiliar with the nights
and their happenings, I am well acquainted.

They have long drawn us nearer to death;
so our young and our old are alike.
أَيُّهاO you الطالِبُthe seeker الكَثيرَabundance لِيَغنىso that he may become rich
O you who seek abundance to become rich,
everyone who seeks abundance is poor.
وَأَقَلُّand the least القَليلِof little يُغنيmakes one rich وَيَكفيand suffices
لَيسَdoes not يُغنيmake one rich وَلَيسَand does not يَكفيsuffice الكَثيرُabundance
And even the tiniest amount makes one rich and suffices;
abundance neither makes one rich nor suffices.

How can you be blind to guidance? How can you be blind?
How astonishing, when guidance is a shining lamp!

Guidance has indeed come to you from God as sincere counsel,
and the bearer of glad tidings, the warner, came to you with it.

And you are with God as long as you live,
and after that, to God you will go.

And death's visitations come at evening and at dawn;
each day they have a rain-laden cloud.
