أَرىI see الدُنياthe world لِمَنfor whoever هِيَit فيin يَدَيهِhis two hands
عَذاباًa torment كُلَّماwhenever كَثُرَتit grows plentiful لَدَيهِin his possession
I see the world, for whoever holds it in his hands,
I see this world for whoever possesses it
As a torment, the more of it he possesses.
As torture, the more he acquires of it.
تُهينُit humiliates المُكرِمينَthose who honor لَهاto it بِصُغرٍwith abasement
وَتُكرِمُand it honors كُلَّevery مَنone who هانَتit becomes insignificant عَلَيهِto him
It humiliates those who honor it, bringing them low,
It disgraces those who honor it a little,
And honors everyone who holds it in low regard.
And honors whoever it has been disgraced by.
إِذاif اِستَغنَيتَyou have no need عَنof شَيءٍsomething فَدَعهُthen leave it
وَخُذand take ماwhat أَنتَyou مُحتاجٌin need إِلَيهِof it
If you have no need of something, leave it,
When you can do without something, leave it be,
And take what you need.
And take only what you are in need of.
