أَصبَحتُI have become مَغلوباًoverpowered عَلىover عَقليmy reason
لاnot يَستَويaccords قَولِيَmy words مَعwith فِعليmy deeds
I have lost command of my reason.
I have become overwhelmed by my own mind,
My words do not accord with my deeds.
My words do not align with my actions.
عَدلُjustice القِيامَةِthe Resurrection غَيرُnot مُختَلِفٍvarying
وَالمَوتُand death أَوَّلُthe beginning ذَلِكَthat العَدلِthe justice
The justice of the Resurrection is unvarying.
The justice of Judgement Day is undisputed,
And death is the beginning of that justice.
And death is the first of that justice.
ياO غَفلَتيmy heedlessness عَمّاof what خُلِقتُI was created لَهُfor it
إِنّيindeed I بِمُنقَلَبيof my ultimate fate لَذوsurely possessed of جَهلِignorance
Oh, my heedlessness of what I was created for!
Oh my ignorance of what I was created for!
Indeed, I am ignorant of my ultimate fate.
I am truly ignorant of my fate.
وَلِيَلحَقَنّيand shall surely join me مَنwhoever أُخَلِّفُهُI leave him behind
وَلَأَلحَقَنَّand I shall surely join بِمَنwith those who مَضىpassed on قَبليbefore me
And whoever I leave behind shall surely join me.
Let me join those I leave behind,
And I shall surely join those who passed on before me.
And let me join those who left before me.
