نَسيتُI forgot المَوتَdeath فيماamong what قَدalready نَسيتُI forgot
نَسيتُ المَوتَ فيما قَد نَسيتُ
كَأَنّيas though I لاnot أَرىI see أَحَداًanyone يَموتُdies
كَأَنّي لا أَرى أَحَداً يَموتُ
I have forgotten death among the things I have forgotten,
I forgot death in what I forgot
As though I see no one die.
As if I see no one dying
أَلَيسَis it not المَوتُdeath غايَةَthe end of كُلِّevery حَيٍّliving being
أَلَيسَ المَوتُ غايَةَ كُلِّ حَيٍّ
فَماthen what ليwith me لاnot أُبادِرُI hasten to seize ماwhat يَفوتُslips away
فَما لي لا أُبادِرُ ما يَفوتُ
Is death not the end of every living being?
Is not death the end of all living?
Then why do I not hasten to seize what slips away?
Why then do I not hasten what escapes?
