رَضيتُI accepted بِبَعضِwith some of الذُلِّhumiliation خَوفَfor fear of جَميعِهِall of it
وَلَيسَand there is no لِمِثليfor one like me بِالمُلوكِagainst kings يَدانِtwo hands (power)
I accepted some humiliation for fear of its full measure.
I accepted some humiliation out of fear of it all,
And one like me has no power to contend with kings.
For the likes of me have no rule over kings.
وَكُنتُand I was امرَأًa man أَخشىI fear العِقابَpunishment وَأَتَّقيand I guard against
مَغَبَّةَthe ill consequences of ماwhat تَجنيcommits wrong يَديmy hand وَلِسانيand my tongue
And I was a man who feared punishment and guarded against
I was a man who feared punishment and was pious,
The ill consequences of what my hand and tongue commit.
Lest my hands and tongue lead me astray.
وَلَوand if أَنَّنيthat I عاتَبتُI reproached صاحِبَone possessing قُدرَةٍpower
لَعَرَّضتُI would have exposed نَفسيmyself صَولَةَthe onslaught of الحَدَثانِtime's vicissitudes
And had I reproached a man of power,
Had I blamed one with power,
I would have exposed myself to the onslaught of time's vicissitudes.
I would have exposed myself to the onslaught of calamities.
فَهَلso is there مِنany شَفيعٍan intercessor مِنكَfrom you يَضمَنُguarantees تَوبَتيmy repentance
فَإِنّيfor indeed I am امرُؤٌa man أوفيI am faithful بِكُلِّto every ضَمانِpledge
Is there, then, an intercessor from you to guarantee my repentance?
Is there an intercessor from You who can guarantee my repentance?
For I am a man who honors every pledge.
For I am a man who fulfills every guarantee.
