ماhow أَحسَنَbeautiful الدُنياthe world وَإِقبالَهاand its favor
إِذاwhen أَطاعَobeys اللَهَGod مَنwhoever نالَهاattains it
How lovely are the world and its favor,
How beautiful this life is and its prosperity,
when whoever attains it obeys God.
When one obeys God and attains it.
مَنwhoever لَمnot يُؤاسِshare with الناسَpeople مِنfrom فَضلِهِhis surplus
عَرَّضَexposes لِلإِدبارِto decline إِقبالَهاits favor
Whoever does not share his surplus with people
Whoever is not benevolent to people from his bounty,
exposes its favor to decline.
Exposes its prosperity to decline.
كَأَنَّناas though we لَمnot نَرَwe saw أَيّامَهاits days
تَلعَبُtoying بِالناسِwith people وَأَحوالَهاand its conditions
As though we had not seen its days
It is as if we never saw its days,
toying with people, nor witnessed its changing fortunes.
Playing with people and their conditions.
إِنّاindeed we لَنَزدادُwe surely increase اغتِراراًin delusion بِهاby it
وَاللَهُand God قَدalready عَرَّفَناhas made known to us حالَهاits nature
Indeed, we grow ever more deluded by it,
We become more deceived by it,
though God has already made its nature known to us.
And God has made us recognize its state.
نَغضَبُwe grow angry لِلدُنياfor the world's sake وَنَرضىand we are pleased لَهاfor its sake
كَأَنَّناas though we لَمnot نَرَwe saw أَفعالَهاits deeds
We grow angry for the world's sake, and are pleased for its sake,
We get angry for this life and become pleased with it,
as though we had not seen its deeds.
As if we never saw its deeds.
