How heedless people are of my affliction,

And of my suffering and of my misery!

People blame me over a friend,

And people do not know my ailment.

Oh, my soul's anguish for a dear friend!

My misery now lies in his absence.

His remoteness has made me a stranger,

In a land not mine, beneath a sky not mine.

    فَما اصطِباري وَما عَزائي

    Grief has reached its utmost limit in me;

What endurance have I, then, and what consolation?

You are my affliction, and you are my ailment,

And you know—so what is my remedy?

And you are the worry in my morning,

And you are the worry in my evening.
