أَماdid ... not? رَحِمَتنيshe pitied me يَومَthe day وَلَّتshe turned away فَأَسرَعَتand then she hurried
أَما رَحِمَتني يَومَ وَلَّت فَأَسرَعَت
وَقَدand already تَرَكَتنيshe left me واقِفاًstanding أَتَلَفَّتُI look around
وَقَد تَرَكَتني واقِفاً أَتَلَفَّتُ
Had she no pity on me the day she turned away and hurried off,
The day when she who had my mercy turned and hastened away,
Leaving me standing, looking this way and that?
And left me standing there perplexed,
أُقَلِّبُI turn about طَرفيmy gaze كَيso that أَراهاI see her فَلاyet not أَرىI see
أُقَلِّبُ طَرفي كَي أَراها فَلا أَرى
وَأَحلُبُand I milk عَينيmy eye دَرَّهاits flow of tears وَأُصَوِّتُand I cry aloud
وَأَحلُبُ عَيني دَرَّها وَأُصَوِّتُ
I turn my gaze about to see her, yet I do not see her.
I turn my eyes to and fro hoping to see her, but see her not,
And I milk my eye for its flowing tears and cry aloud.
And I milk tears from my eyes for her, and call aloud.
