O you who reproach me for love—indeed,

By God, had you borne as much of it

As I have borne in loving a soft-voiced one, you would not

Have blamed me for love; so leave me and what

I suffer, for I do not know with what

I have been afflicted, save that, while

I was at the palace gate, on one of the occasions

I roamed through their palace, there came a shot

At my heart from a gazelle, with arrows; and he did not

Miss my heart with them; and yet

His two arrows were his two eyes; whenever

He wished to kill me with them, they greeted me.
