مُؤنِسٌ كانَ لي هَلَك

مُؤنِسٌ كانَ لي هَلَك

وَالسَبيلُ الَّتي سَلَك

وَالسَبيلُ الَّتي سَلَك

A companion of mine has died.

And the path that he trod—

كُلُّ حَيٍّ مُمَلَّكٍ

كُلُّ حَيٍّ مُمَلَّكٍ

سَوفَ يَفنى وَما مَلَك

سَوفَ يَفنى وَما مَلَك

Every living being granted dominion

Will perish, along with all he owned.

يا عَليُّ بنَ ثابِتٍ

يا عَليُّ بنَ ثابِتٍ

غَفَرَ اللَهُ لي وَلَك

غَفَرَ اللَهُ لي وَلَك

O Ali, son of Thabit,

May God forgive me and you.
