كَسَّلَنيmade me listless اليَأسُdespair مِنكِof you عَنكَaway from you فَماso not
كَسَّلَني اليَأسُ مِنكِ عَنكَ فَما
أَرفَعُI lift طَرفيmy gaze إِلَيكَtoward you مِنfrom كَسَلِlistlessness
أَرفَعُ طَرفي إِلَيكَ مِن كَسَلِ
Despair of you has left me too listless to seek you, so I do not
Despair has made me languid about you, so no more
Lift my gaze to you, out of listlessness.
Do I raise my eyes to you out of languor.
إِنّيindeed I إِذاwhen لَمnot يَكُنbe أَخيmy brother ثِقَةًtrustworthy
إِنّي إِذا لَم يَكُن أَخي ثِقَةً
قَطَّعتُI severed مِنهُfrom him حَبائِلَcords الأَمَلِhope
قَطَّعتُ مِنهُ حَبائِلَ الأَمَلِ
Indeed, when my brother is not trustworthy,
When my brother is no longer trustworthy
I sever the cords of hope in him.
I cut from him the ropes of hope.
