قَد نَغَّصَ المَوتُ عَلَيَّ الحَياة
إِذsince لاnot أَرىI see مِنهُfrom it لِحَيٍّfor anyone living نَجاةescape
إِذ لا أَرى مِنهُ لِحَيٍّ نَجاة
Death has indeed embittered life for me,
for I see no escape from it for anyone alive.

Whoever dwells beside the dead has settled in a distant
abode, and has taken unfeeling folk as neighbors.

How clear the matter is! And yet I

If the living knew what was witnessed by the
dead, they would find no pleasure in life.
