Blessed is He whose servant I am proud to be.

And glory be to Him, glory be to Him, and to Him belongs praise.

And there is no dominion but His; exalted is His countenance.

He is the First in His sovereignty, and He is the Last.

So, O soul, fear God and strive for Him.

For the days have passed, and the promise has drawn near.

For the best death is to be slain in His path.

And the best way to live is lightly, lawfully, and in moderation.

I have distracted myself from what I have no means of escaping.

And there is no escaping what we have no escape from.

I marveled at people's plunging into jest among themselves,

Openly, as though the jest among them were earnest.

They forgot death, so they delighted in amusement and youthful passion,

As though deaths did not go forth at evening or in the morning.
