O preacher to the people, you now stand accused,
O admonisher of the people, you have become troubled,
for you condemn in them the very things you do—
for you criticized in them things you yourself do.

The gravest sin after associating partners with God, as we know it,
And the greatest sin after associating partners with God, we know,
in every soul, is its blindness to its own faults,
is each soul's blindness to its own faults,
وَشُغلُهاand its preoccupation بِعُيوبِwith the faults of الناسِthe people تُبصِرُهاit sees them

and its preoccupation with the faults of others, which it sees
and its preoccupation with people's faults, which it sees
in them, yet cannot see the fault within itself.
in them, yet it does not see the fault within itself.
