أَلاBehold إِنَّناindeed we كُلَّناall of us بائِدُdestined to perish
وَأَيُّand which بَنيchildren of آدَمٍAdam خالِدُimmortal
Behold, we shall all perish.
Behold, we all shall perish
And which of Adam’s children is immortal?
What mortal creature is immortal?
وَبَدؤُهُمُand their beginning كانَwas مِنfrom رَبِّهِمtheir Lord
وَكُلٌّand each إِلىto رَبِّهِhis Lord عائِدُreturning
And their beginning was from their Lord,
Created by their Lord at first
and each shall return to his Lord.
And unto Him shall all return
فَياso, O عَجَباwonder كَيفَhow يُعصىis disobeyed الإِلَGod (first part of the word)
هُ(completes the preceding word, “God”) أَمor كَيفَhow يَجحَدُهُdenies Him الجاحِدُthe denier
How astonishing, then! How can God be disobeyed?
How strange they disobey God
Or how can the denier deny Him?
Or deny Him, the deniers
وَلِلَّهِand for God فيin كُلِّevery تَحريكَةٍmovement
عَلَيناagainst us وَتَسكينَةٍand stillness شاهِدُa witness
And for God, in every movement
In all we do and leave undone
and stillness, there is a witness against us.
God watches over us each one
وَفيand in كُلِّevery شَيءٍthing لَهُfor Him آيَةٌa sign
تَدُلُّpoints عَلىto أَنَّهُthat He is واحِدُOne
And in everything there is a sign of Him,
In everything a sign appears
showing that He is One.
To show that He alone is One
