حَتّى مَتى لا تَتَّقي
Look to your own soul, O wretched one!
Look to yourself, O wretched one.
How long will you go on without fearing God?
How long will you fail to take heed?

Do you not see the days stealthily snatch—
And do you not see the days snatching
—souls away, choosing which to take?
Away souls and picking them out?

Look with your eyes: do you see

In the west or the east

بِيَدي نَصيحٍ مُشفِقِ
How many a brother’s eyes have I closed
How many a brother's eyes I have closed
with my own hand—a sincere, compassionate brother!
With my own hand—a brother sincere and caring.

Then I despaired of him, no longer hop—
And I despaired of him; I no longer

Hope that he will live, so that we may meet.
لاdo not تَكذِبَنَّever lie فَإِنَّهُfor indeed it is the case
لا تَكذِبَنَّ فَإِنَّهُ
مَنwhoever يَجتَمِعcomes together يَتَفَرَّقِwill part
مَن يَجتَمِع يَتَفَرَّقِ
Do not deny it, for surely
Never lie, for indeed
all who come together must part.
Those who come together will part.

Death is the final end of those who have gone
And death is the end of those who have departed
from among us, and the appointed fate of those who remain.
From among us, and the rendezvous of those who remain.
