May God answer whoever prays for you,

and oppose whoever is hostile to you.

It is as though the sun and the full moon

had come together at your collarbones.

    وَما أَحلاهُ مِن فيكِ

    And in your mouth lies the bees’ harvest—honey;

how sweet it is, coming from your mouth!

And word has spread that silk itself

hurts you and makes you bleed.

Yet, for all this, you cannot tell

the names of your own handmaids,

    nor a palm-tree dove

    from peacock or cock.

    Glory be to God—how beautifully

    your Maker fashioned you!
