A young man may face hardship, then find ease.

And this world's companion is fashioned with imperfection.

    Indeed, whoever covets every wish

That his soul has made him crave is truly greedy.

    Piety has a praiseworthy outcome.

And pure piety belongs to whoever exercises restraint.

And a man's contentment protects his honor.

Only one who is content has eyes at rest.

And a man's joy lies in whatever gives him more.

And when a man suffers loss, he is distraught.

The lessons of this world lie open before us.

Whoever has lived in it has seen and heard.

And tomorrow this world will fell its companion.

So what life within it can benefit him?

And I see every dweller passing away.

And I see every bond severed.

And adherence to good and evil comes through example.

Some of us follow others in this.

    Nations are sown and reaped.

All that is sown is sown to be reaped.

Time throws men down at times.

Thus whoever wrestles with time is thrown down.

This world, as it was fashioned, is nothing but

    Carrion over which we wrestle.

The pious, righteous man is the one who casts it aside.

And the one who defends it is the cunning deceiver.

People have become corrupt, and now, if they see

Someone upright in religion, they say, 'An innovator!'

Take heed of death, O you over whom

The causes of death draw lots.

Leave what is precious to whoever withholds it.

You may see a thing withheld when it becomes precious.

And in your world, let go of what you can attain.

And turn away from taking on what you cannot do.
